French Soccer Expert Explains Why Kylian Mbappe "Feels Betrayed" By PSG

Kylian Mbappe rocked the soccer world this week when it was reported that he wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Mbappe's apparent desire to get out has come less than six months after he signed a new three-year PSG contract, which made him the highest-paid player of all time.

PSG had to come up with a very attractive offer to keep Mbappe because Real Madrid were close to signing him on a free transfer in June.

It was not only the financial terms of PSG's proposal that convinced Mbappe to stay.

Mbappe was also promised more power in terms of being able to have his say on significant club decisions.

It would appear as though that promise has not been satisfactorily fulfilled.

French soccer expert Julien Laurens, who works for French newspaper Le Parisien and is also a regular pundit on BT Sport, spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about the Mbappe situation this week.

Laurens explained: "He feels betrayed by the club in the sense that all the things the club promised him when he signed that new deal until 2025 have not happened.

"The promises they would sign a new striker so he could play in his best position off the striker, that Neymar wouldn't be there and he would be sold, that they would sign a center-back, and he would be at the center of the project. All of these things have not happened.

"We knew there were tensions and now he has made his mind up and he doesn't want to be there. He feels he made a mistake by extending his contract and he should have left in the summer, now he is looking at the January transfer window at where he could go."

Mbappe scored from a penalty kick in a 1-1 draw with Benfica on Tuesday night. He is now PSG's all-time top scorer in the Champions League with 31 goals.

According to The Telegraph, PSG value Mbappe between €300 million and €350m.

Any transfer fee in that range would make Mbappe the most expensive player in soccer history.
