Rodrygo And Federico Valverde Shine As Real Madrid Maintain Superb Away Form

Elche 0-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid recorded a sixth away league victory in a row on Wednesday night by seeing off Elche in style.

Federico Valverde, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio got the goals for Real, who moved six points clear at the top of La Liga.

Real had not won six consecutive league matches on the road since October 2017, while they had not started a season with six away victories since 1991.

Real's margin of victory could have been even greater had it not been for the VAR's impact at the Estadio Martinez Valero.

Benzema had two goals disallowed by VAR reviews, while David Alaba was also denied a place on the scoresheet following video replays.

Valverde got the first proper goal of the night on 11 minutes when he unleashed a fierce left-footed strike from 20 yards.

The Uruguayan - who has now scored six goals for Real in 15 games this season, after netting just six times in his previous 148 appearances - celebrated in the style of Erling Haaland.

Real's last two goals at Elche were set up by another in-form South American.

Rodrygo teed up Benzema and Asensio to become the first player born in 2001 or later to provide two assists in one La Liga game.

No player has assisted more goals (four) in La Liga this season than the 21-year-old Brazilian, who has also scored four times in the league.
