Erik Ten Hag Watches Manchester United Live Against Crystal Palace

Erik ten Hag was at Selhurst Park to watch Manchester United's final game of their worst season in Premier League history.

The Dutchman will be in charge of United next season after signing a three-year contract to take over as manager.

But he was only on a watching brief on Sunday as interim manager Ralf Rangnick picked the team for one last time, before he steps back into a part-time advisory role.

There was no Cristiano Ronaldo for Ten Hag to watch, after the 37-year-old picked up a knock earlier in the week.

Nineteen-year-old Hannibal Mejbri made his first start and played 62 minutes before making way for Juan Mata to come on for his final United appearance.

Mata will not be the only player leaving this season.

If Ten Hag is to succeed, he will likely have to make significant changes at Old Trafford.

United's dismal season ended with their 12 defeat in 38 Premier League games.

Wilfried Zaha scored the only goal as Palace won 1-0 to finish 12th in the table.

Despite their defeat, United held onto sixth place because West Ham were beaten 3-1 at Brighton.

United will therefore be in the Europa League next season, while the Hammers will play Europa Conference League ball.
